Most of the buzz around the Xbox One so far has been about the console’s home entertainment features (which I predicted pretty accurately!) but Twitter exploded this morning with possible pricing details for its launch titles, specifically with the trending topic ‘£90 for Fifa‘.
Amazon Pricing
The outrage began after Amazon began listing launch titles including Fifa 14, Call of Duty: Ghosts and quite a few more for pre-order at the price of £89.99. This is somewhat unbelievable when the average new game for the current generation of consoles costs something more like £34.99. It remains to be seen whether these prices are accurate though as the console itself is being listed for £599.99, which is also more than most reports have suggested it will be and addition controllers are also listed for £89.99.
Has This Happened Before?
Price inflation on titles isn’t uncommon with the launch of a new console though, certain PS3 titles were as much as £49.99 when they console launched six years ago. More recently when the PS Vita handheld launched, games were as much as £39.99 which some are blaming for it’s mediocre sales figures. I wouldn’t be surprised if the final pricing is around the £64.99 mark but I certainly wouldn’t expect much more than that otherwise a large segment of the target audience will be left out in the cold.
